Nathan VanDerAa, of Star City, was in U.S. District Court in South Bend on Monday where he plead not guilty to two counts of Unlawful User of Controlled Substances in Possession of Firearms and Ammunition and one count of Manufacture of a Controlled Substance. A plea deadline date has been set for September 13th, 2011 and if a plea is not reached by that date, he will go on trial on September 20th. He is out of jail as he was released on an unsecured bond of $10,000 on July 6th.
Each firearm charge is punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release. The meth charge is punishable up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $1,000,000 and at least three years of supervised release. Those are the maximum penalties allowed by the federal court.
